Anthony want to take Custody of Kai but he know something else 😱
💔 Anthony Wants to Take Custody of Kai… But He Knows Something Else 😱
Anthony sat in his car outside the courthouse, gripping the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white. The custody hearing for little Kai was in just two hours, and Anthony’s mind was racing.
Kai had been living with Shayla ever since their messy breakup. Anthony always believed he was Kai’s father—he was there the day the boy was born, held him first, whispered promises into his tiny ears. But last month, a rumor had reached him through a mutual friend… a rumor that gnawed at his heart day and night.
“Anthony… are you sure Kai is even yours?”
The words echoed in his mind. He’d laughed it off at first, but curiosity and pain had driven him to dig deeper. He secretly requested a paternity test through his lawyer. The results had come back just yesterday… and they shattered him.
Flashback – The Result
Anthony had sat in his kitchen, the envelope trembling in his hands.
“99.9% probability… NOT the biological father.”
He dropped the paper, staring at the floor in shock. Not mine? After everything? He thought of Kai’s smile, the way the boy would run to him yelling “Daddy!” every time he visited. Anthony wiped his eyes angrily.
It doesn’t matter. He’s still my son. I raised him. I love him. I will fight for him… even if I’m not his blood.
Back to the Present – The Hearing Day
Shayla’s car pulled up across the street. She stepped out in a fitted black coat, her lawyer by her side. When her eyes met Anthony’s across the parking lot, her lips tightened into a thin, nervous smile. She knew something was coming—she could feel it.
Inside the courtroom, Anthony’s lawyer presented his case:
-
Stable income.
-
A safe home.
-
Proof of years of care and attachment.
Shayla’s lawyer countered, claiming that Shayla had been Kai’s primary caregiver and that Anthony wasn’t even the biological father.
The judge looked at Anthony with raised eyebrows. “Mr. Rivera,” she said firmly, “are you aware of the paternity results submitted by the respondent?”
Anthony stood. His heart pounded in his chest. He took a deep breath.
“Yes, Your Honor. I am aware.”
Gasps rippled through the courtroom. Shayla looked down, guilt flashing in her eyes.
“But…” Anthony’s voice shook, then grew stronger. “Blood isn’t the only thing that makes a father. I have been in Kai’s life since day one. I was there for his first steps, his first words, his first fever at midnight. I have loved him unconditionally, and I will continue to love him—no matter what.”
The judge leaned back, studying him. Shayla’s face paled. She hadn’t expected this. She had assumed Anthony would walk away after learning the truth.
Anthony continued, tears welling in his eyes:
“Kai deserves stability. He deserves a father who will fight for him, not abandon him. And that’s me.”
The Twist
The judge called for a recess. Shayla cornered Anthony in the hallway. Her voice was trembling:
“Anthony… you know the truth now. Why are you doing this?”
“Because,” Anthony said softly, staring into her eyes, “Kai doesn’t know the truth. To him, I am his father. And until the day I die, I will be.”
Shayla broke down, tears streaming down her face. “I never wanted to hurt you… I was scared… Kai was born when I thought I had lost everything…”
Anthony gently wiped her tear away. “Whatever happened back then… doesn’t matter now. What matters is him. So, please… let me be there for him.”
Shayla swallowed hard, her defenses crumbling. “You really love him that much?”
“More than anything in this world,” Anthony whispered.
Ending Scene
The custody decision came later that afternoon. The judge awarded joint custody—Kai would live primarily with Shayla, but Anthony would have equal visitation rights and decision-making power.
Anthony walked out of the courthouse, the cold air hitting his face. He looked up at the gray sky, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips.
I may not be his blood, he thought, but I am his father. And that’s enough.
Across the street, Shayla held Kai in her arms. The boy saw Anthony and wriggled free, running toward him with outstretched arms.
“Daddy!”
Anthony scooped him up, hugging him tightly as tears streamed down his face. He knew the secret would always be there in the background—but so would his love.
And that love would never, ever change. ❤️
